We didn't start Skillinabox because fashion was trending. We started it because we watched women — homemakers, students, working professionals — struggle to turn a real skill into real income. The opportunity existed. The education didn't.
Fashion and beauty are not hobbies for these women. They are a vehicle — a way to pay school fees, save for a house, and say for the first time: “this money is mine.”

The Founder's Story
“I didn't want to build another YouTube channel. I wanted to build something that actually changed what a woman earns at the end of the month.”
In April 2020, Ritvik Chauhan was a fashion designer with a following and a locked-down country. He went live on Instagram to teach stitching — not as a business plan, but because he had time and women had questions.
200 women showed up. Then 500. Then 2,000. They weren't just learning to stitch — they were asking: “Can I do this from home? Can I make money from this?” He co-founded Skillinabox with Prateek, built the curriculum himself, and personally mentored the first 1,000 students.
Today he still leads every flagship program — live, with his name and face on it.
Our Journey
From a lockdown Instagram Live to 30,000 women and 20+ countries.
Prateek sparked the idea — an online home for every woman who wanted to turn her passion for fashion into a profession.
We officially launched from a small 2BHK flat — with nothing but a website, one Instagram page, and a handful of women who trusted us first.
Ritvik Chauhan — NIFT alumnus, celebrity designer — joined Skillinabox as Head Mentor.
The National Skill Development Corporation came on board. Government-recognized certification for home-learners.
Our YouTube channel crossed 100,000 subscribers — a free fashion school for the internet.
Enrolments started coming from UAE, UK, Canada, Singapore, Australia. Skillinabox became a global brand.
NID Fashion Design Program launched — the first NID-certified curriculum available to Tier 2/3 India, online, in Hinglish.
30,000 women trained. Kala.AI and Portfolio.AI launched. The next chapter: make every woman with a passion an entrepreneur.
